3 Must-visit Bars in Cagliari

City in the Sun

Travel to Cagliari is most popular in the summer months, and for obvious reasons: amazing beaches, great parties, and exquisite seafood dinners in candlelit cobblestone streets. But the truth is that Cagliari gets more days of sun than any other Italian province, so it’s a great destination any time of year. In the cooler months, you may not be spending as much time at the beach, but Cagliari is home to a ton of great places to have a drink and taste some local delicacies. Here are three must-visit locations loved by locals and tourists alike.

Wine and Dine

Many globetrotters and gourmets travel to Cagliari for one reason: the wine. And Inu wine bar in via Sassari is the best place in the city to taste all the local varieties. Here’s a quick breakdown of Sardinia’s famous grapes:

 • Cannonau: The most traditional red variety. Strong and full-bodied.
 • Carignano: Red, smooth, and luscious. Velvety soft fruits dominate.
 • Monica: Red, semi-dry and complex, but without being too heavy.
 • Vermentino: White, a touch of carbonation, and immensely refreshing.
 • Vernaccia: White, boozy and robust. Very traditional and great with seafood!

Inu’s huge wine list features vintages from these grape varieties and many more, and don’t forget to order a Sardinian aperitivo: cured meats and aged cheeses from local producers. The truffle cheese is unbelievable!

A Quick Pint… or Two

Sardinian wine is unparalleled, it’s true, but more beer is drunk in Sardinia than in any other part of the country, and it’s no wonder with the great breweries scattered all over the island. In Cagliari, make sure to stop by Birrificio Gattarancio in Viale Trieste for an ice-cold brew. Their homemade beers are unfiltered and unpasteurized, and their terrace is the perfect place to enjoy a warm evening. Getting hungry? They’re also famous for their steaks!

Cocktails, anyone?

A stay in the sunny city of Cagliari isn’t complete without a signature Italian cocktail. The fishbowl sized Aperol spritz is sparkling and sweet, and it's always served ice cold to perfectly accompany a lazy afternoon in the sun, or try a Negroni; this ruby red cocktail with a bitter bite is the best way to start an evening out. Visit Lima Lima in via Iglesias for a relaxed atmosphere, a bit of live acoustic music, and a perfectly made drink.

The Good Life

Whenever you travel to Cagliari, and whatever for, whether it be the impressive archaeological sites left behind by thousands of years of history, or to taste fresh oysters, sea urchins, and mussels just hauled from the sea at Cagliari’s famous fish markets, don’t forget that Sardinian life is all about slowing down, sitting back, and enjoying the moment.

Turn off your phone, sleep in, and read the paper in the sun with a small glass of wine and a plate of plump olives, and when the day turns to dusk and the red sun sets over the hills across the bay, head to one of Cagliari’s excellent bars to have a sip, take a deep breath, and realize that it just doesn’t get any better. This is Sardinian life.
